The Explorer isn’t lame anymore.
Finally a worthy competitor to the all-conquering WK2.
But the WL might be less, erm, ugly, than the Ford.

Yes... But lets wait for jeep, their wei

I really don’t want this to happen. Getting more views combined with that Sportage post than any quality shit I
‘ve done is downright depressing.

Even on enthusiast forums crossovers are taking over, lol.

Somebody left their iPad 1 sitting on the dash in the press shots.
As someone who is generally a fan of the screen sticking up out of the dash, the execution here is horrendously bad.
All I can think:
T hat said, I actually don’t hate it.

Hey, if Ford made an AWD twin turbo M
ustang, I’d be all ears as well. But it has to be a V8 because #heritage and the genuenly interesting engine is considered the "Secretary" spec.

My kia also has a raised up screen and I must say, it’s actually more comfortable to the eye
when
it’s being used.
I think Audi nailed the display in the Q7 by making it easily visible without taking your eyes off the road too much and making it disapear when you don’t need it.
I’m sure Ford could also do that and get style credits, but I’m guessing that the motors would be too expensive. I am really curious as to what Apple Car play looks like in a vertical screen though.

Fancy disappearing displays are cool. I generally like the way Mazda does it, too.
The Explorer’s looks like a bad Tesla knock off.

The Mazda one looks like mine, but... is it fixed?
The Stinger's cockpit would look a lot better without the display.

I want to know why they didn’t continue to evolve the design of the 2016-2018 (which was overall fairly handsome, though the tail lights didn’t match the chiseled aesthetic of the squarer headlamps) and regressed with these derpy headlights. They make it have an almost cross-eyed look with the shape, just like the most recent refresh of the Taurus. The new Edge and Expedition look good, why make the face of the Explorer so awkward? They’d also look better if they were slightly lower. Perhaps no higher than the top of the actual air inlet, and reduce the grille height by the same amount?
Other than that it’s great. An Aviator is high on my list of future vehicles and lands solidly in the fray of other larger luxury crossovers/SUVs. Bravo, Ford/Lincoln.

Mazda’s are fixed. I may not have made that clear in my po st.

Now, now, it’s not that bad. Nothing a facelift wouldn’t fix. Hideous would include the new Blazer, BMW X7, Acura’s latest MDX & RDX,
and some of the Lexus SUV/crossovers, for example. This is merely awkward, mostly due to the headlights that are shaped the wrong way.

Ford SUVs are having a weird identity crisis in my opinion. The new Edge is pretty and all, but the old explorer to me isn’t that great. I think that they tried to shake things up a bit, and it had some wei
rd results. I don’t like the slim headlamps or the entire front end to be honest. But hey, it's RWD at last

When I first saw spy shots of the new model, my thought went to the cartoon meme (trollface?) where the guy’s head is leaning back and he’s sucking on his teeth.

The 2013-2016 Explorers looked too soft and rounded, but had that mass-market appeal. I personally like the facelifted (current) front end, but it doesn’t look like the tail belongs to the front, since they largely reused the non-facelifted model’s tail lamp shape. They kept the same overall shape on the 2020 model, which makes it feel a bit dated already.
I’m glad it’s back to RWD. I’ve been bugging Ford’s social media to bring us the Ranger-based Everest for years, so this looks like a fair compromise, especially since we get the Bronco out of it.

I'm glad too, such a large SUV with a FWD base is kind of pointless IMHO....

same, my dad has a 2016 limited which I drive fairly often... usually when I’m not driving my F150

I had a WK2, my dad has the first facelift WK2, it’s a great SUV, handles great o
n the highway, very quiet, and it has so much space it’s almost irresponsible.
So much room for... activities, I certainly miss being able to lug around everything in my WK2.

Actually my one gripe with it is for the size of the car the interior could be larger. My mom had a 2007 XC90 which is about the same length but it definitely had more cargo space.
![]() 01/09/2019 at 21:31 |

I feel that the seating space is very adequate, and cargo room is competitive if not a bit shorter than I would've liked (for a bike or smt)
.
.. I think the only gripe I could have is the opening on the liftgate.

The D3/D4 platform is going away. The future is modularized platforms (thin VW’s MQB/MLB architectures.)

1) drifting is stupid
2) reckless driving in test cars is a good way to get fired.
